Celebrate Earth Day Across Pennsylvania with the Next Generation of Conservation Leaders

(PA Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources/LinkedIn) This Earth Day, young people across Pennsylvania are stepping up to make a real difference—and you can be part of it!

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (DCNR) NextGen Advisory Council is teaming up with the Governor’s Youth Council for Hunting, Fishing and Conservation, the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Next Generation Engagement, and the PA Outdoor Corps to host volunteer events all over the state during the month of April.

These Earth Day celebrations go beyond simply recognizing the planet, these are hands-on opportunities to get involved in local conservation efforts. Whether you’re picking up trash, clearing trails, or planting trees, this is your chance to do something that truly matters.

“By coming together this Earth Day, we not only honor our commitment to the environment but also empower the next generation to lead the charge in conserving Pennsylvania’s natural beauty for years to come. Volunteering is more than just an act of service – it’s a chance to build a community of like-minded individuals who are dedicated to making a real difference. The first Earth Day was successful because of young people, so let’s return to its roots and reignite that spirit of action and change,” said DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn.

Youth Leading the Way
“Serving as the council liaison for DCNR’s NextGen Advisory Council is a unique opportunity to empower young people across the Commonwealth. By harnessing their passion and enthusiasm for our shared natural resources, we can inspire a new generation of conservation leaders, showing that anyone can be a leader, whether through a personal interest, hobby, or career,” said Ali Bowling, DCNR Executive Policy Specialist and NextGen Advisory Council Liaison.

For many of the young people involved, volunteering is about more than giving back—it’s about building lifelong habits and relationships that keep Pennsylvania beautiful.

“Working for Keep PA Beautiful and leading our Young Ambassador Program gave me a unique perspective on the importance of connecting youth with organizations right in their backyard for them to become lifelong advocates and stewards of our environment. I am thrilled to have a lead role in the NextGen Advisory Council’s Youth Earth Day committee because it is important to be active in your community, both environmentally and civically. When volunteering at cleanups, meeting new people is always the highlight, as well as knowing I’m doing my part to help keep Pennsylvania beautiful in my corner of the state.  I encourage other youth and young professionals to join in the countless community events across Pennsylvania throughout the month of April and beyond,” said Kylie McCutcheon, DCNR NextGen Advisory Council member.
